Mariel writes poetry, stories, essays, and everything in between. A pen and notebook lover, she shies away from social media and begrudgingly types up handwritten first drafts. A passionate teacher, she has published essays on education in Washington Monthly and Current Affairs. Her poetry and fiction have appeared in a variety of literary publications, including Zetetic and Uppagus. |

Mariel holds a Bachelor of Arts in Written Arts & Spanish from Bard College, where she won the Academy of American Poets Prize for Bard, and a Master of Education from Fitchburg State University. Her interests include snail mail, free will (or the lack thereof), the butterfly effect, swimming in lakes, and wild blueberries. She lives in Boston with her husband, Anand and a variety of houseplants. |
