It's been a while since I posted...

...so I thought I'd update you and let you know in terms of my current projects, I'm now finishing up a short essay on my (not-so-amusing) musings about a taboo topic: climate change. I'm also editing a short story that explores the ever-fluctuating nature of relationships. Meanwhile, I'm writing new poems and editing old ones.

What I'm neglecting to do (still!) is get back into editing the novel I mentioned in my previous (and only other) post...but my New Year's resolution is to revisit it with an open mind and not too much self-judgment! Another thing I'm procrastinating on is submitting my poems and stories to publications. Because I find so much joy in putting my thoughts on paper, sometimes the act of writing is all I need, and trying to get published feels like a time-waster (why spend the time submitting my writing when I could just BE writing?!), but obviously words are meant to be read...so I'll get on that, too.

Having a full-time desk job doesn't exactly leave me with an overwhelming amount of time or energy to write hundreds of masterpieces, but I'm doing my best with what I've got. A puzzling aspect of writing is that it takes a great deal of energy to make myself sit down and get my ideas out, so at the end of a long workday, I can't always motivate myself to do it. However, writing is extremely energizing for me; it almost always leaves me in a more vibrant state of being, similar to a runner's high. I need to remind myself of that when I come home from work and my id peskily compels me to veg out in front of a mindless TV show instead of write.

Anyway, I hope this post sufficiently answers the near-weekly question I get from my parents, grandparents, parents' friends, friends of parents' friends, and acquaintances, which is something along the lines of, "Have you been finding time to write lately?"
